The EU project GrowSmarter promotes sustainable urban development. Barcelona, Stockholm and Cologne are the first cities to be selected for the lighthouse projects. HOPPECKE supplies innovative energy storage systems for the modernisation of a residential area in Cologne.
The sustainable residential quarter of the future is self-sufficiently supplying households and vehicles with intelligently managed energy, which of course comes from renewable sources in a climate-neutral manner. The Stegerwald Estate in Cologne-Mülheim with its 600 apartments is currently being renovated: PV systems are installed on the roofs of houses to harvest solar energy. Energy consumption of the entire settlement is optimised fully automatically. The climate-neutral mobility of the future will support charging stations for electric vehicles.

Energy storage systems are connected and controlled intelligently

HOPPECKE provides 16 complete energy storage systems for this EU lighthouse project. These lithium-ion systems with outputs between 6 and 36 kW and 5 to 130 kWh are controlled by software for residential area management, and it is planned that residents will always be able to find out about their current energy consumption via an app. The HOPPECKE systems can also be controlled online from the control room as so-called swarm storage by the energy supplier RheinEnergie.
