Regional Sales Manager - Grid and Sun; UK, Ireland and Nordic

How long have you worked at Hoppecke?

After graduating from Staffordshire University with a Masters degree in electrical and electronic engineering, I began my career as an inventory administrator at XPO Logistics. I joined Hoppecke in 2021 as technical account manager for the special power systems side of the business.  Recently, I was promoted to regional sales manager with responsibility for grid and sun projects across the UK, Ireland and Nordic countries.

What attracted you to this industry?

I’m at the start of my career so wanted to work in an innovative, growing industry that will offer good long-term opportunities. In view of the zero-carbon commitments that are being adopted by countries all over the world, the battery industry will definitely see increased and ongoing demand, and this appealed to me.

How did your upbringing influence your life choices?

I’ve always been passionate about IT and technology, which is why I chose to study engineering at university. Plus, I love travelling and meeting new people, so this all ties into my decision to choose a sales role in an industry that is focussed on technological innovation.

To get what you want, you have to work for it. This work ethic has been adopted by various family members over the years so the importance of working hard and doing your best has been instilled in me from a very young age.

If you had the chance to go on the road trip of a lifetime, and could only bring four people with you (living/dead, real/fictional), who would they be and where would you be going?

Since I’ve a passion for innovation and technology, I’d go to Silicon Valley, California. My travelling companions would be the four giants of the world of hardware and software. I’m sure that Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Sergey Brin and Steve Jobs, founders of Tesla, Microsoft, Google and Apple respectively, would have some interesting stories to tell.

What single quality do you think has contributed to your success?

I’m very much aware that I have a lot to learn, so I seize every opportunity. I think the fact that I’m willing to listen and learn from people who have in-depth knowledge and years of experience has made a significant contribution to my achievements to date.

What secret ambitions/talents do you have?

Currently, my main ambition is to do well in my new role and exceed management’s expectations. I’m a strong believer in hard work. If you want to reap the rewards, it’s quite simple: you have to put in the effort.

In my opinion patience is a virtue of successful people so, if I have a secret talent, I’d like to think it’s that I’m patient.

What keeps you getting up and doing this every morning?

I enjoy getting out and about, meeting new people and visiting different places. In my work, I like the fact that every day brings fresh challenges and new opportunities. As for life in general, ultimately what drives me is my love for my family and the desire to support them in the best way I can.

What do you do to relax or have fun?

Actually, that’s an easy question to answer. For me, it’s all about spending time with my family. As a new father I especially enjoy having fun with my one-year-old daughter.

What advice do you have for others, maybe younger people, in this industry?

At my age and with my limited work experience I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to offer advice to others, but I’m happy to share my own work ethic. Personally, I take the view that to succeed in your career it’s important to work hard and always make the effort to learn something new.
