Lead or lithium – which battery technology fits best for your data center application? - Monday, 18.10.2021

In case of an unstable grid or a blackout, data center storage systems (batteries) are required to take over instantly and use its stored energy to support the load until either mains has been restored, a generator has started or the data center has been shot down safely. The bridging time usually ranges from 5-15min and batteries are mostly used in float charge (fully charged).

UPS batteries in data centers will not see any mentionable cycling during lifetime. Therefore, HOPPECKE grid | Xtreme VR batteries have similar lifetime projections like comparable LFP (Lithium ferric phosphate) solutions. Lifetime is the most significant factor in comparing TCO (total cost of ownership), reliability, safety, serviceability and sustainability of both technologies.

In our free THOPP | paper “Lead or Lithium in Data Center Applications” we compare both technologies.
